Recently brought a MK1 Pajero - that was on Disabled tax...now the previous owner has removed the disk BUT my question is , can I still park on a road (its MOT'd and Insured) but not display a disk? checked on the ASKMID site as well as DVLA and its still down as taxed?
Very confused......
ps cant tax it until the Log book comes back from DVLA with ammended details - ie PLG ;)
insa-disco:
from my understanding you have to display a valid tax disc to be able to park in public places, its the same as ordering your tax online, you can drive the car as it comes up as taxed but still cant park coz its not displaying a valid tax disc, hope that helps
Gordo:
There are two offences relating to road tax, and the one you'd be guilty of is failure to display - a £200 fine.
You'll also have to change the tax category unless you're also entitied to the disability class.
HTH :)

sorry not totally correct.
any vehicle which is driven / used / parked on a road or public place must display a valid vehicle excise licence. unless it is off the road in which case you must declare it SORN
there is an on the spot fine for failing to display a VEL of £60 which me and my colleagues hand out ..... road tax has nothing to do with being able to park or not on a road
the DVLA can issuse fines of up to a £1000  and or clamp your vehicle or seize it and tow it away - its heavy stuff i'm afraid but its riff out there.
not displaying a VEL can also invalidate your insurance - read the small print in your insurance docs. the line that says you agree to keep the vehicle in a road worthy and safe condition! its there trust me, insurance companies will do all that they can to wriggle out of paying up.
your problem is a tricky one, it sounds like the previous owner has returned the tax. if you tax online and the disc hasn't arrived by the time your old one runs out then make sure you print and carry the email receipt with you - will save you 60 sheets
you can and should be able to tax it on line - check and see what the class is / if its been changed yet - or you can use the new keeper supplimant you were given when you bought it, thats what the bar code is for on the side
hope some of this helps :police:

Thanks for replies - cant tax online at the moment as the previous owner had Disabled tax on it - and has sent log book off to DVLA to ammend this - and add me as the new keeper, so until it comes back its catch 22..No tax disk to display - but still officially taxed , Insured and MOT'd.
I have no off road parking available and live in a Terraced house with no access to garden to park it round the back..
Could I be a bit 'cheeky' and put a 'tax disk at dvla' in window??????
