Which Winch?
MudRat:
Got 300 quid to spend do I go for:
Warn 8000, 5 years old, been rebuilt, little use, cw Plasma, but no wiring.
This one at 310 pounds http://indigo.xilo.net/~landrove/rangiebreaker/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=47&category_id=14&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1
Or this one http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/OFF_ROAD/Winches/Britpart_Winch_DB8000.html I can get for 275 GBP
or this one http://www.newman4x4.com/product_info.php?products_id=19526&nwCsid=qtp3skh036oq8l47dv7eq7tto1 for 305 GBP
or this one http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/OFF_ROAD/Winches/Britpart_Winch_DB9500i.html for 350 GBP
Any thoughts, the Warn is better obviously, but i would need to wire in the socket for the wander lead and also all the battery wires. So not sure??

Those winches are fine, ............ if you have a boat, cos if you need an anchor you'll have one...LOL!!!
Out of the options given, i would go for the Warn, it's a professional winch, and a bit of wiring will only help familiarise you with it and how it works..... which can only be a good thing...!!!
When you wire it, it's quite simple to give yourself internal control aswell as outside on a wander lead, i also have a solenoid to switch the winch 'on' in the first place, with a little light telling me the winch is 'live'...... all you need for 'in and out' is an electric wondow switch........

Go for a budget WARN TABOR Excellent winch at a good price. Contact thermidorthelobster on here, he has one on his disco :afro:

May also be worth fitting a kill switch inside too. I recall a chap I know saying that on one event in France he had been more than a tad surprised by a complete stranger reaching in, picking up the remote, and winching him up the hill.
Said stranger was apparently sightly bemused by the robust Anglo-Saxon terms this provoked!
