and even rarer, a tax exempt series 3 with 200tdi engine in and disco axles?

A long shot I know but if I were to stumble accross one how much do they go for normally?

I fancy a series again but need it to tow my caravan and other stuff and do sensible speeds and stop a caravan / trailer!

There's a few tax exempt series 3's around, of those, there are a few with 200tdi's and there may be one or two of those with Disco Axles (but not very many).

I think you would be extremely lucky to find one that ticks all three boxes. However, I wouldn't expect to pay a huge amount more than a standard exempt S3 as they would be in quite a niche market.

It may be better to find an exempt S3 (or 2a) and have the engine conversion done yourself. I reckon you could get it done professionally for under a grand.

Brake wise, you could always fit the disc conversion for around Â£700 per axle. Depends on how much you want to spend!

petrol v6. Would like to hope it is gas converted. LWB would be more stable for towing I guess. Only reason I thought of a 200tdi one is so I can run it on veg oil as 200's seem to like veg oil better than 300's from my experience.

and I would like a tax exampt so Im not paying Â£200 a year for the landy to move about 20times a year off the drive. :twisted:

Not a V6, it's a 2.6 straight six. Little more grunt than a 2.25 but not much and parts are more difficult to get hold of. Doesn't state LPG so doubtful it would be - it's usually a good selling point (if it's set up properly).

The other advantage of a tax exempt is classic insurance, I'm paying Â£100 per year for both my S2a's (not each!) and no tax on either.

I have sn S3 tax exempt 1971.

Bought it for Â£550 with 2 months mot. Chances of it passing another MOT without extensive rebuild are ZERO. (Bulkhead, chassis welding, gearbox, springs swivels)

I wouldn't buy any lnady blind unless it was restored and had lots of photos, based on my experience of doing that.)

I bought my tax exempt 2a v8 auto wi' permanent 4wd for a very sensible price........ might add gas eventually but she does 20mpg anyway.

Chances are a series with disco axles wouldn't be tax exempt anyway as it'd have most likely been converted to coils.
Paid Â£500 for my '71 series 3 with 10 months MOT and a 2.5 transit Di engine about 3 years ago (and much more since then).

Just keep ur eyes glued to ebay! fair few series with 200Tdi's go through it, some with disco axles, best ones have disco internal bits so keep right look and leafs(coz real landys have leafs)
and its the right time to buy as prices r low!

I would want a series with parabolics. if it has coils i might as well buy a defender!

even a transit engine would be enough to tow a caravan hopefully!

Yes a transit engined 88 would pull a caravan, I've towed about 3/4 of a tonne of trailer with a 109 sat on top behind mine with no real effort, it slowed a bit on the hills but sat quite happily on the motorway.

Probably the best all round engine for road use on the series. Problem is just like the the Transit they are not the best for using in the sticky stuff and water.

i have had no probs with it although i havent been serious off roading but its been fine for what i have done any ideas what she may be worth i know that id never get my blood sweat and tears back but she has been stripped down to chassis all repaired and built back up resprayed and wax oiled just thinking a car maybe better in this cold weather maybe i am getting old lol

I have a 2a on parabollox with rangerover axles and disco 200.Im getting 40mpg with sensible driving and ive dragged my sanky at 100mph with a fair bit more with out it, but im on my 6 th gearbox in 3 years and 2 nd overdrive,but its a gud set up.

i looked up an insurance quote today for a tax exempt series 3 standard and for 3rd PFT they wanted £300. :-o

This was with no claims bonus as it is for a new car but i said i drive 2 other cars reguarly!

Grrr. How do people get it down to £80 or £150 fully comp?
