As the title...........

Loud, metallic clicking when turning the key but not starting - 1955 86" Petrol

The battery take off lead goes to a connection block on the bulkhead before going to the starter. I don't have orang utan arms so I held a breaker bar on the connection whilst I turned the key - it rattled like mad. Did the same on the fuel pump and the starter and nothing was felt?

Any suggestions as I'm not much of a mechanic?

Check and clean all the connections, earths included. If still no joy then i would be inclined to think that the starter solenoid is U/S.

Is the connector in the first post the solenoid?

This may sound silly/obvious but my S111 did that today when I tried to start it afer about 10 months of no use.
The battery was flat, same thing happens on my Elise, it clicks but does not spin.

Can't be that?!?

It's connected to a charger/conditioner when not in use - but I will check!

It's the battery.

13.0v on the charger/coditioner
10.3v off the charger/conditioner - key off
00.8v off the charger/conditioner - key on

A new battery it is then.

Thanks.

Is the connector in the first post the solenoid?

If its original its the starter switch.  Does the job of a selonoid but technicly its not one as its not remote triggered, The button in the cab is on the other side of it!
