Winch mounting .. ?
« on: October 26, 2008, 11:56:27 »
Am saving my pennies for a winch but was wondering what the best way to mount it would be. I have a tubular front bumper fitted and my mate has his own metal fabricating shop. Any ideas fellas?

Make a winch tray and mount it behind the bumper. The roller fairlead can be attached to the bumper - no extra vehicle length if you do it that way.

Thanks for that Les. Dont suppose you have a picture of how it looks? Would there be enough room between the grill and the bumper? Suppose you would use the bumper mounting bolts to secure the tray?

What vehicle is it on.
Disco, Just trim the grill a smidge . If you have no aircon etc then its possible to mount the winch behind the grill. Tray will need to be STRONG
90, the same but may as well trim bumper between chassis and mount tray there
I would use chassis mounts and farther back (steering drop arm and blank)
