Mileage and speedo cable?
« on: October 08, 2008, 18:07:05 »
Hi, On my speed transducer I have one cable going to the transfer box and one going to the speedo head unit, half way up to the head unit it splits and there is another wire with two pieces that look like female spade connectors does any one know what this is for also the speedo/mileage doesn't work I'm guessing this is why, also it's got a LT230 not BW, cheers.  Ben

So you have a mechanical speedo head then and Lucas Hot Wire EFi?
If you have a second transducer fitted in line with the speedo cable I would suggest it once had a secong speedo fitted, this is common on police RRC.

I'm guessing so, The bloke who had it before me had a tripmeter maybe it connected to that?  Ben

Yes I think that's possible.  Speedy cables IIRC can make you pretty much any cable you like, but the one you need to replace that one is a LR standrard part, just not a very common one.

The same chunk of loom that has the reversing light switch and the auto box connecter if fiutted ie starter inhibit etc.  It's roputed to the front end of the tunnel where it connects with the loom IIRC.

Err, I'm a bt confused.  Is this the LR speed transducer? if so then inside is a reed switch that creates pules, one wire goes to the EFi power supply and the other returns a speed sugnal to the buffer, then on to the cruise, EAS, EFi and speedo.  Don't connect tot he battery or it will flatten it.

Well I have just changed my speed transducer, after finding the wire still connected to the old one  and I'm pleased to say that I now have a fully working speedo/milage counter  :D the speedo reads about 5mph under due to the tyres but I allways use my sat-nav for speed, cheers for your help.  Ben

I have 35/12.50R15 tyres on mine it's not a problem though as mentioned early I use the sat-nav but how would I be able to bring the speedo back to reading right?,  Ben

AFAIK all LR products used the same gears in the output of the transfer box, certainly on the LT230 box, so if you swapped the plastic output gear for one form a Defender..........
