power steering leak
woody:
i have ATF leaking out of my steering box
looks to be from the drop arm
has anyone tried to replace the seal
or stripped the box
help please
RichardM:
I believe you can replace the seal, but the shaft may be warn so it might leak again soon, you may be better off fitting a refurbished box
fish:
Try one of the leak sealing fluids first, added to mine about 2 years ago as it was leaking like a sieve, hasn't leaked since! its go to be worth a go for a couple of quid and no trouble.
Range Rover Blues:
Agreed, try the stopo leak first, if that doesn't do it then the shaft is worn and fitting new seals is a false economy, swap the box. Some dodgy recon boxes are no better so get one with some guarantee, if it last the year it's a good 'un.
DO NOT put brake fluid in PAS, it's an old wive's tale.
ChrisV8:
try this stuff, it is guaranteed to fix it so no loss there, I used it very successfully in my 110 box untill it wore out, at 150,000 miles !!
