petrol tank gaurd

hi guys
 has anyone built a petrol tank gaurd for a jeep cherokee xj,
i have a standard petrol cherokee and have recently knocked the tank, as this is not good
i would like to put some kind of a gaurd over it,
but could do with some plans or pictures of one fitted etc, so i have some idea what it looks like,
i have a towbar fitted not sure if this would help or hinder though.
ive done a few searchs but its hard to find cherokee bits,

You used to be able to get a genuine jeep fuel tank skid but due to the age of the model they stopped making them about 3 years ago.

Beware because I think the tanks are different on a mk1 & a mk2 facelift Cherokee. Had one of the last in stock on my mk2 & IIRC you have to remove the towbar & re-fit it sandwiching the fuel tank skid between it & the chassis.

Check out eBay 1st for a Jeep part but there are plenty of aftermarket & stronger ones in the USA  ;)

never thought about ebay and of coarse ebay .com guess the states is a good place to start looking for bits  :lol: :lol: :lol:
it will be a bonus if i have not got to build it myself,

The Smiths:
Get in touch with a scrap yard for a MK1 one (about £20/35) They can be modded to fit MK2 if that is what you need.
