25 mm Spacers
« on: February 23, 2005, 14:45:01 »
I have +1" lift (Scorpion Racing Springs. Progressive on the rear) and +2" Koni Dampers.  (1991 200 Tdi Discovery)

Would spacers work okay with this set up? I know I'll have to change the carstor angle.  :?

It is something I had thought about but don't want to comprimise towing abilaty or articulation.

Thanks

Rich

u dont have to change the castor angle as its fine with 2" on it.. the only thing you will lose is the ability for the steering to straighten itself up.

other than that its fine.

unless you can find castor correction arms for a good price.  its a lot of money though

...and it will be more likley to scrub the tyres ...and it will be more likely to 'tramline' ...and it will be a lot more vague.

But aside from that... castor alterations don't make much difference ;-)

ive had them for 2 yrs and not noticed much difference

it depends if you are willing to fork out the couple of hundred quid for the altered ones or not.

Hi Simon,

Yes thought about it. Looked at the idea when it was in DISCOURSE mag.
Also thought of +2" lift but went for +1" for the prgressive springs for towing the farm trailers in the summer.

Thanks for the advice guys. A idea I may put on hold for a while.

I'd agree with Tim about the castor correction, not the best £200 I've spent but still a good idea for lots of reasons.

If you've +2" dampers then you should be ok to lift to +2" but I'd suggest spacing your bump rubbers to prevent coil-binding on articulation.  FIT LONGER BRAKE FLEXIS, anyone who doesn't is a p**t, it doesn't cost the earth, don't risk it.

If you have anti roll bars, space them out with towball spacing blocks, I goit mine from Towsure, nice ali things, just make sure you don't get the hollow type!

As I have said I have +1" at the moment. I had to buy dislocation cones but not touched the break pipes.   Is it a possible problem on +1" or not.

If is is where do you recomend are the best to buy from.

As always cost is a factor but I don't want to loose quality.

Well put it like this, I whipped the engine and box out of a scrapper recently and as you can imagine the suspension shot up to the end of it's travel.  You could play a tune on the brake pipes!
If you beach the car so the front wheels droop or on a lifted car in severe articulation you are going to be able to overstretch the pipes.

I bought mine from Matt Savage I think, I bought them +3" at no extra cost in Goodridge stainless hose, with limited warranty.  I think I paid about £75 incl postage, bit of a price I know but not the place to skimp I think.

See you have +2" dampers, if that's 2" on the piston and the tube you've nearer 4" extra travel, but the axle alone is heavy enough to wreck the standard pipes in droop travel.
