Hydraulic winch - with no hydraulics?
Nige:
Due to the size of my baby - 3 tonnes empty it says - I need a beefy winch. Thinking hydraulic. BUT I understand most are powered by the power assisted steering box.
Mine's manual...Any suggestions how to power a hydraulic winch up without the additional expense of fitting power steering?
Reckon I need a 10000kg winch - i.e. 3 times weight or am I being too over the top? (Don't remind me of the cost!!!)
Range Rover Blues:
They only run of the PAS pump to save the cost of another pump, and the downside is that if you turn the steering the winch might stop! Fit a S/H self-contained PAS pump from a scrapper, look at a Big Granada or early Transit for one with the reservoir on the pump itself.
Alternatively you need a PTO point and an adapter kit.
muddyweb:
a) Get a power steering pump from a car and power it with a big motor
b) Get a taillift pump off something like a transit Luton (12v)
You'll need to check flow rates / pressure to see how it will run of course
Nige:
Great. Thanks guys - off to a scrappie later this week
karloss:
Small tippers are a good source too, loads of scrap builders transits about.
