Before 'n' After or not??
« on: August 11, 2008, 19:20:26 »
Im looking at having the Disco 2 before 'n' aftered, but Ive read all the adverts in the mags and they all seem the same, is he blowing his own trumpet, or he really as good as he says?
£460 +VAT is pretty expensive,  I have loads of aircraft spec waxoyl too!!

Anyone have first hand experience??

If you google before and after and kleentect you will find a lot of negative words against it. If you can do it yourself then I would suggest you do it and save yourself a fortune.

There is an account of a court case where overspray of the kleentect was removed from the body panels with wet and dry

you can buy a new galvanised chassis for a little bit more money.

The ads he writes makes me laugh - we can add up £16k to the value of your landrover etc etc...  The style reminds of the readers digest letters you get telling them how you have won millons perhaps, sort of.

I dont know about the quality of the work, and rot/rust on a LR is an area that could be very contentious if you ever wanted to excercise the warranty on the job. So, for me I would go galvanised- seems the safe sensible long term option.

I noticed that, thats what made me think twice about getting it done.  Then I saw the bit about his treatment can reverse the rusting effect and turn it into metal again.  Then he goes on to explain what rust is.  And its absolute rubbish!!

Not wishing to be anti any previous comment, but i've not yet seen galvanised discovery chassis advertised anywhere....... and there's an awful lot of steel on discovery's that tends to rot quicker than a corpse on the side of the road.....

Come to think of it I dont think that I have actually seen disco chassis galvanised for sale.

Not taken as Anti Mr Ron!

that said I would still rather strip the motor back to its chassis and get it galvanised that any other treatment.

they also do a long hose attachment for it so that you can reach right into the chassis sections

I was wondering whether to get mine done too.  In this month's LRM I saw an advert for a different company, Rustmaster, which seems quite professional, is marginally cheaper and also closer.  I emailed for info and they were very responsive.

Realistically I can't say I'm ever going to get around to doing the job myself, given how messy and horrible I've heard it is to do by friends who have done their own.

It's a lot of money, but I should probably go ahead and do it...

The only Chris Parkinson truck I've seen in the flesh was covered in Waxoyl even down to all the electrical connectors and the steering damper and shock absorbers.  I was quite surprised by this;  I'd assumed the non-metallic and moving parts would have been masked off.

He quoted me £425 +vat for the Disco, which coincidentally is about the same price as a Hannibal side awning... :)

The customer testimonials he forwarded comment that the company is efficient, well organised and he talks sense without making exorbitant claims about the process.  All of these things sounded quite encouraging.

Hmm, not sure.  Do before n after actually GUARANTEE to buy it back for £16K higher than the book value?  If they do, then I might just book it in and buy a nice TDV8 Range Rover on the proceeds.  Then get the Rangie waxoyled and buy an Aston...  within a few weeks I think I could afford a Veyron.  Way to go.
