To all ex Practical Pistol shooters.
diggerdog36:
Never heard of practical shotgun, what is it, Ive been shooting rifle and pistol for 8 years now (service pistol!!) I own a .303 Enfield, and recently taken up clay shooting cometitively as appose to shooting game. I love it, but I dont think it will be long before guns are banned in the UK, everything else fun in the UK is getting stopped!!!
Dr Strangeglove:
That's why I want to get into the practical shooting side before I loose the opportunity.
Practical shotgun entails shooting timed courses with either paper targets or more likely "falling plate" steel targets. You start with a loaded gun, buzzer sounds - you start shooting the targets over (positioned a minimum of 5m away). You may have to move to different locations to get a shot on some targets - this is when you reload on the move. You are timed to your last shot.
It is about being familiar with your firearm (and being safe!!), being able to to shoot quickly in succession and to reload quickly, sometimes on the move.
Every time I finish a shoot I am looking forward to the next! I want practice hard because I want to compete. If you have only shot service pistol or rifle then it is a totally different experience as this is all about speed whilst being accurate. The speed is also in the reloading as every second counts (though the timers are to 100th of a second.

As an example of costs of kit, I just bought a second hand Mossberg pump action. It is called a 500ATP, it holds 8 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber. £200 I am going to need other ammo belts etc so I can see me spending another £200 Ammo costs approx £4/box 25
ENJOY!!

how the hell can you get an 8 shot pump - even with FAC?
thought it was now max of 2 shots and the pump chamber had to be blocked off to only allow 2 cartridges?
i'm a lifelong shooter of both shotguns and rifles (and handguns before the legislation changed)
Mr Bump:
iirc
Shotgun licence = 2 in mag and one loaded (semi auto :)) or double barrel
Firearms Certificate = 8 shots
diggerdog36:
My section 2 shotgun allows me 5 shot semi, and my section 1 FAC allows upto 8 shot!!
