To all ex Practical Pistol shooters.

Dr Strangeglove:
I used to love doing Practical Pistol, at one time practicing three nights per week.  It gave me a buzz and made my heart beat that little bit faster.

The media induced frenzy after Dunblain put a stop to that and I have been upset about it ever since.

I went to another shooting club to have a go at Practical Shotgun.  Left at the end of the day with that same buzz.  Absolutely superb.

If you liked the timed/reactive pistol disciplines then you may well enjoy this.  It is a bit harder to get into than shooting pistol as you will have to find a club that does it.  But because its using a shotgun the danger areas are different so you don't have to be aiming directly at the backstop all the time so you can vary your course of fire - and as such the shoot can be better than pistol.

The guns are powerful (they are shotguns after all) and so the physical/mental ability required for control is even greater than the pistols - superb!!  Its got that feeling back to my shooting that has been lacking.

The equipment is not too expensive either.

SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats a great idea...

I miss my day of pistol shooting, It was the reloading and making you own ammo was half the fun. There there was our yearly visit to Bisley camp and spending all that money on goodies and new guns! Happy days

Where can you do this practical shotgun?? It sounds like fun....

lambert:
And yet again another example of knee jerk legislation that only served to criminalise otherwise law abiding citizens
without actually having a positive effect on the number of people getting shot. As for practical shotgun sounds like good fun.

Dr Strangeglove:
For general info look on the UKPSA website.  If you need more info let me know.

As an example of costs of kit, I just bought a second hand Mossberg pump action.  It is called a 500ATP, it holds 8 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber.  £200  I am going to need other ammo belts etc so I can see me spending another £200   Ammo costs approx £4/box 25

The discipline is all about speed in shooting AND reloading, as one course may require 20 shots.

If you have a firearms certificate, depending upon your location, you may be able to get a variation without too many problems.  Other areas require you to be a member of the UKPSA to show "good reason".

If at all possible go to a club that already does it.

ENJOY!!

I agree  :D

I've had a few goes with clays and it's  great fun :D

Last time out 24 out of 25

However I have now got back into a teenage fad I had for air arms

And with a bit of luck one of our suppliers at work (john from falcon abrasives he organises shoots all over the place  ) is going to help me secure a pest control gig at a local farm .

This will help me with the air arms and give me reason to get the 12 bore
