LeanneNCharlie:
hi all.

will a series steering box mount too a 90 bulkhead as i have a spare one of these and my series bulkhead is beyond repair.

will a series 3 chassis take a discovery v8 engine and lt77 (short stick) gearbox and work o.k or will a modified shorter prop to the rear axle end up too short to articulate. modifying seat box and bulkhead won't be a problem nor will the welding for new mountings. does anybody have the spersifics of where the new mountings on the chassis should be possitioned?

cheers, charlie.

Rich_P:
If you fitted the LT77 with the R380 transferbox and retained full time 4WD you may run into problems with the front axle.  Series axles (apart from the Stage 1) were intended for part time 4WD use, not full time four wheel drive.  There's nothing to stop it working as such, just that the swivels are UJ rather then CV and from what I understand it will cause some rather interesting steering!

Any particular reason why you want the Disco transmission?  There are many Series motors about with a V8 in front of the standard gearbox and they're okay.

LeanneNCharlie:
i have thought about fitting the standard gearbox as i do have the bell housing conversion and the correct flywheel. the reasons for the lt77 box is its just come out of my disco in one big lump attatched to the engine and thought it would be better as its a five speed and would keep up better on motorway runs. i would consider the series box if i could find a decent running overdrive for not so much money. anybody?!

charlie.

Rich_P:
I don't think you'll see much gain from using the LT77, since the ratios aren't that much above the standard four speed Series box, remember Discoveries and Range Rovers have higher ratio differentials!  My recommendation is to fit early RR diffs to the axles to increase the gearing.  :)

LeanneNCharlie:
cheers for that rich. it will be a lot easier to fit the v8 if its mounted to the series box and no faffing around making new tunnels. i already have discovery diffs to hand, are they just a straight forward swop and will series half shafts fit or do i use the disco ones?

cheers, charlie.
