Earl my Landy!

12 Months ago, aged 15 i saved up my pennies and bought Earl, tatty as ever i got to work to make him look a bit better.

Now, after 12 months of blood, sweat, tears, grease and temporary blindess (If inside of the body is covered in dried mud don't let anyone smack on the side with your eyes open :lol:)
I finally have started to get earl into a bit more of an apppropriate state to ever be seen driving without stepping out covered in dog fur and mud!

Best part is that it's already MOT'd :D although not sure how genuine it is because i bought it off the bloke that MOT'd it but i got the next MOT ina about 2months time or so. I'm pretty confident he'll pass but still a bit concerned. At the moment it's feeling like a show vehicle with all the shiny paint so I can't wait to get him in the brown stuff! :twisted:
A question I was going to ask some of you more Knowing folk is whether the insurance is cheap for a new driver? This is the 4cyl petrol BTW.
Also I forgot to tell you How i came to get this landy, It was actually my Dads first ever signwriting job and he suggested to me that I gave the bloke a ring and was wondering if he was willing to sell, thankfully it was a yes :D The funniest part was that my dad was quite upset to see me take off all the old paint, he said he was only 17 and it took him 2 weeks per side to do the work :lol:

well the insurence, there is one simple answerto to that... no it isnt cheap... at all. i tried to get the series 2a done and off one of those search sites and the cheapest one was £3500!!!! (and that was without telling them about the 3L V6 in it)

im sure i could get it cheaper when im 17 and start ringing around.
to be honest your lucky to get anything insured for under £3000 (well in my area) untill you reach about 22, 23.

for example my other car is a escort cabriolet (typical boy racer car lmao) and that was £3250

i think the best thing to do is to go on one of you parents if they let you, im hoping to go on my dads, he got the escort for £200, (soon go up when im on it)

so to stop me waffling on, no it isnt cheap!
your from woster ay, i shall keep an eye out for ya when im round there :D nan and grandad live round there.

Ooh, Not good news then  :|  I'm pretty sure my parents will let me on their policy, I sure hope so anywho! :-k

It will be cheap as far as insurance goes for young drivers, but won't be cheap.  That make sense?  :lol:  My recommendation is to go as a named driver under a parent's policy temporarily for your first few months till you get a full licence at the very least.  After one full year of driving, you should be able to find insurers willing to insure you for under £2,000.

If the vehicle is completely standard and you're keeping it that way, contact Footman James on their Classic Insurance number and ask them about the young driver classic policy.  :)

Thank you very much, The only problem i'm finding with getting isurance anywhere is that it's currently on Q plates just because it had the number plates and plate registration documents lost so they just stuck it on Q plates so i'm looking into getting it off.

Oh right, you'll need to apply to the DVLA for the relevent documents and possibly a replacement age related registration.

very tidy paint job! looking good. Id expect insurance to be around the £650-£700 mark for basic just yourself on 3rd party fire n theft, footman and james are a good place to check with, classic insurance!
certainly will be cheaper than anything ur mates will be driving,

Ah, thanks very much, And thanks for the comment on the paint job, You'd never guess but it was actually done by brush :), There's a few brush strokes but nothing to major as probably the first day i drive it it'll probably be covered in mud and have a good few dents :lol:

Might be best to start as if you dont have any documents for it at all. Get the chassis number and get a land rover club to give a certificate saying how old that chassis number is. Then you can take that to the DVLA and after a few forms, a bit of a fee, and probably an inspection they should give you an age related plate.

My 90 is on a Q. insurance just wanted to know why so i said it was ex MOD.

Im insured with with Adrian Flux http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/ my Insurence with my Rangie is £142 a month but when I had my series it was between £700-£800 a year, hope this helps your landy looks great by the way  :)  Ben

Well, A bit of an update!
I've been doing a few little bits and bobs for the MOT so nothing all that fun to be honest. A while back I sent my seats home with the Sister to get them redone. She said she'd like to surprise me for christmas so all seemed well and today i got to unwrap them. (late christmas, she was at home for the proper job)
