Has any one got any suggestions/pics of how to stop the dizzy getting splashed, i think i need it after she died the weekend when it got covered in water, happily the trusty can of wd40 seemed to solve it quite quickly and we were back in the mud playing again after about 10 mins

There are some special 9 fingered rubber gloves avalible for the distributor and 3 fingered glove for the coil. Cant remember where though? My biggest problem is the spark leads connecting to the spark plugs. Remedy - longer rubber caps on the spark plug ends! Avalible from all leading manafactor's (cheese) :)

I use an old 1 gallon plastic container with the top cut off
and placed over the dizzy, Also done the same to the coil.

do you find thats ok paul i presume it just stops the water splashing on the dizzy and the coil and thats enough to keep them dry etc

i drowned mine the weekend when entering large muddy pond a bit too fast, it ran on about 5 for a while ,enough for me to get to dry land :D and then stopped

That's the one, I've got one and it's only just enough to cover the cap, mind you there still a large gap where the clips go over so if it got really dunked then there's no saving it.  But arcing across the top between the leads is the biggest problem anyway.

Top Tip, for the coil I salvaged 2 off Ford clip on fittings for the coil LT leads and fead these through the rubber boot, then connected the mutlitude of wires to the other ends of these 'flying leads'  The Ford clip-on coil plugs give an extra layer of waterproofing and sheild a possible arcing path for the coil (ever seen a coil arcing to the LT terminals?)

For those of you with more initiative than spare cash, a tuppaware container, tube of silicone and an old milk carton gets you nearly as good!





(put the coil in the tuppaware, silicone the joints.......)

on my 90 ive got the coil in an icecream tub with a snap lid & i removed each lead & cleaned them with brake cleaner & then soaked in wd40,removed & cleaned the cap & put a wee spray o wd40 inside & a small bead of silicon grease round the base o the cap before putting it back on,refitted the leads in the correct order & bobs ur brothers father,theres some pics in this post from ther day at drumclog,never missed a beat once

The other weekend i went through some rather deep water and mud. In the morning, i smeared Vasoline on the distributer. It worked a treat all day. Well impressed.

after all the tips :D  i found an old 5 litre can cut it to fit and fitted it round the dizzy as per pauls piccies, works a treat no problems today when out, have also fitted an old plastic water bottle round the coil with the leads coming out the neck for a bit of splash protection
