Side exit exhaust

Well, I finally got round to fettling my exhaust, mainly prompted due to bending my back box coming down a failed hill climb (Pretty steep!). I'd like to say thanks to all those who's previous attempts and posts/pics helped me to do this, especially Wizard who sent me some flexible pipe F.O.C, leftover from when he did his own.

change the middle box too that to short cherrybomb sound even better . oh check on tail pipe pass on m.o.t think they have to be recessed into the rear wing to save little daft yobs burning there fingers  :police:

Well, Wizard donated that piece FOC, i just paid postage but you can get it from most independant exhaust centres. I have a 4 foot piece in the garage but its about 68mm dia which was too big for the standard disco exhaust pipe. I've been debating using it for the bend in my snorkel and ditching the B&Q drainpipe joints but pre-made southdown tubes are relatively cheap on eblag so may get one of those. If 68mm (ish) is any good to you, you're welcome to it boss.

you can remove the centre box aswell and it will go through MOT's as it is not loud enough

That looks like a Llama 4x4 shock kit and dislocating cones you are using... any good? I'm toying with getting a set for mine. Was advised to go +2 shocks on the front and +5 on the back.

That looks quality, nice job! 

The flexi got me thinking though...  If thie stuff is so good and it looks damn easy to work with, why is nobody using it when fitting a disco 200tdi into a defender, surely it would make life much easier!?

Any opinions on that, my disco donor is coming tomorrow / monday!

My mate has a 2.5TD Isuzu engined Range Rover and his has a down pipe made of flexi. Its a right cowboy affair but it does seem to work!

Its actually a britpart/procomp setup from paddocks, £200 at the time. The cones are from Devon 4x4, bought them when i got sick of having to jack up the truck and re-seat my springs everytime i went off road, they work a treat. Kinda wish it was a llama kit, heard good things about them although I'm not too disapointed in mine, front is too bouncy though, it was mentioned on my (Passed!) MOT the other day.

So how big is the dia of the actual flexi u used ;) while the disco is parked up i may have a go at that as i have moshed my back box also with a failed hill climb last time i went playing  :roll:

I've just ordered the Llama 4x4 set for my disco. I'll let you know what I think of it!

Kieth, measured the pipe tonight, its 57mm outside diameter. I had to cut the flexi and cut my exhaust (2 slots either side with the cutting disc) to make them compress/expand and fit. I reckon a slightly bigger flexi, maybe 60/62mm ish would slide over the exhaust nicely.

It's lasted really well, no issues whatsoever with the flexi, joint etc. The chrome tailpipe has started to get a little pitted on the underside but what do you want for £6.99?

The cable was on for about a month, surprisingly it showed no signs of wear or heat damage at all. I happened to come across a big jubilee clip when I was sorting some tubs in my garage so I stuck that on instead.

I'd say go ahead Pet, its a cool mod :)

i side exit my exhaust took me 40 mins it was easy i found a nice pipe with a 90 degree angle so it took all the hard work out of it

I know that this thread is a bit old, but where did you get the Chrome/Stainless finisher that is screwed to the back wing around the exhaust flexi pipe.

I got mine from D44....... in stainless, not cheap, but nice!!
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!
