trickydicky:

I've had a thread on here re my 29J smoking like a pig, but am at a loss too as to what's going on with it. New rings etc should have made the engine smoke less by stopping engine oil burning, but blue smoke now replaced by white! I fitted a new timing belt with everything timed up properly as before, but still no luck. The diaphragm on the side of the pump was perished, so I fitted a new one, still no better. Old and new injectors make no difference. Some say it's under fueling, but white smoke is unburnt fuel, so I just can't work it out. Somebody must be able to help us out, without saying fit a 200 TDI! 19Js can't be a complete black art surely...

i replyed to your post about the rebuild and sugested the lift pump as i have done everything you have done i spoke to a landrover mechanic this morning who told me that there are two screws that are factory set on the back of the pump if you remove the bigger one and slacken the small one that can stop blue smoke so i can only assume that if you titen it that will give the engine more air so it wont pull so much fuel. (less white smoke) but keep in touch and let me know how you get on as i am in the same bote
