Under Body Protection Materials and Mounting Points
« on: May 19, 2008, 14:33:46 »
I will shortly be wanting to make some under body protection panels for my Suzuki X90 and would appreciate your views on the materials to use and how thick to make them.  A couple of people have suggested marine plywood which is not a material I would have thought of.  The main areas I wish to protect are the front and rear bumpers, the sills and everything down the centre of the car, including the exhaust.  Also, if anyone has any designs or details of mounting points these would also be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Peter.

...... A couple of people have suggested marine plywood .......

I think they must have been pulling your leg, Peter.

The impact forces involved can put big dents in 10mm aluminium on a Land Rover. Your Suzuki obviously weighs rather less, so most of your plate could probably be made from 8mm aluminium plate dependant on suitable mounting features.
