dont know about the date but we always had to refit the cats to get them through the emission test, makes a big difference to a petrol .totaly different test. ive not got one on mine no probs doesnt alter the smoke test as i know but you may be right . might be a similar thing to the anti roll bar thing... took them off too.  alan..

I dont believe there is any requirement to fit a catalytic convertor on a car in the UK. Although to meet the emissions levels on a modern petrol engine I think its virtually a requirement. On a diesel engine you can remove the cat with no issues.
