gearbox probs

bilge rat:
cant see how all the synchros could fail together , i know what your saying about the bias plate but have you ever had one go . i was surprised how hard it is to find the gears, atf has now been upgraded to mtf 94 , better grade. we havent suggested the clutch not clearing !!. might be worth a check of the hydrolic system. alan...

Lord Shagg-Pyle:
The hydraulic system is the next thing on the list. Changed the oil yesterday, the problem is still there. Its very hard to describe, but it will change gear perfectly if I make the effort not to push the gear lever too far over when going from 1 to 2. The plate was fine, not fractured as I first thought.
Lets hope it is the clutch hydraulics. Regretably, another gearbox within less than two years does not make it financially  viable to keep the car, as the engine is now at 205K miles, although still going well, fingers crossed!

andyb:
Do you drive with you hand resting on the gear lever. The weight/pressure can cause premature wear in the selector forks.....this could then lead to a crunchy gear change as you decribe.
