Surely the poll should read ON and OFF, not Yes and No.....

I have mine ON.

It's a well instilled habit to put it on when I get in a car now - doesn't feel right not to have it on anymore.

Not sure what this has to do with greenlaning ... the law requires you to wear your seatbelt on a public road.  Except when reversing  :)

cheers, Ross K

I agree and with uniformed Police officers now seating in as passengers in ordinary looking 4x4's driving around most of the popular lanes in North Wales then I would expect more proscuetions.

Plus its still unwise even at 5 mph a sudden joiet can send you into the windscreen, and don't forget the kids in the back

Okay, this was originally posted in the green laning section and folk were questioning whether or not to wear a seatbelt.  :-k

Laning and 'off-roading' are not the same thing. A lane is a public road and as such, all laws of the road apply, therefore seatbelts must be used (with the caveat of age of vehicle etc).

If the thread however, does concern proper 'off-roading' (the legitimate driving off-highway with the land owners permission), then it gets moved to the bar where it ould be more appropriate!

Anything for an easy life!

I don't know any Motor sport governing body that condones not wearing a seat belt at any speed. Yes I, like most people will 'forget' to fasten my seat belt while gently cruising a Pay n Play site, but generally my advice would be without question - ON AT ALL TIMES. I would also expect that the rules governing the use of licensed pay n play sites require the use of seat belts at all times.

For RTV trials, you only need a minimum of a lap belt, so I fitted one as an addition to my main seatbelt. I use the lap belt on its own when "Off-Road" at a trial or P&P site.
We all know that the inertia seatbelts can be a pain if they lock up when on rough terrain, but the lap belt gives you some freedom of movement, without the risk of being thrown out of the vehicle should you roll over.

On, even on private sites. Find it tends to hold me in the seat so I can concentrate on driving rather than bracing myself!

On. so use to belting up the moment I get in even if it's just down the back ally from where I park to the gate at the end.

Well on greenlanes it's a legal requirement anyway unless the vehicle is old enough not to have them fitted just as it is on any other road.

I only hope you never have an accident where you chew the steering wheel, because maxofacial injuries are some of the worst to treat, and can make artificial respiration impossible to give.
Plus no insurance comany will pay out for any injuries caused when they know you weren't wearing it.

on at all times :police: i wear it always when driving just to be safe but i do find its holding on to the steering wheel that keeps me in my seat rather than head butting the roof

It entirely depends on the situation for me.  On roads, obviously I have it on.  For most greenlaning I have it on.  For a lot of off-road, I have it on, but sometimes I don't put it on if I'm just trundling along some tracks or across a field.

Always on, regardless of where I am. There is the argument that it could get stuck if you roll, but that why I always carry a penknife on the car keys..
Plus it would be very hypocritical of me to be issueing £30 'reminders' to people if I didn't wear one myself. :police:

I put the shoulder part behind when I'm on pay and play sites. But am looking at harnesses, as I find normal seat belts can twisted your back if the ground is a bit rough. I'm a bit obsesive about wearing my seat belt, was drumed in as a child.

Although a quick query for the plods, is it legal for delivery or taxi drivers to not use their seat belts if they are doing lots of short trips. Which require them to exit the vehicle at every stop?

mine goes on if im about to do somthing stupid. other than that i stays off, constantly getting in and out and it becomes a pain in the neck, literally.

The simple fact is that its very easy to judge when you might need it and when not.at least 70% of the off roading i do carries no risk of rolling. when i get to somthing dangerous or unpredictable i belt up.
