What about that whirly thing that fitted into the air intake and claimed to boost power, despite partially blocking the intake and using some of the airflow to spin? I forget the exact name now but it was rather like one of those toy windmills, just a bit meaner-looking!

Not the Hyclone (jury stillout on that) it was a naff looking windmill that sat in the air intake and span round.  I reckon it makes a car go faster by partially blocking the air intake and making the engine run richer, a bit like having a blocked air filter in fact.

Maybe I should start selling old air filters on flea0bay claiming they will make you car run faster

No, it wasn't a Hiclone although I am very sceptical about those too.

I suspect the windmill thing "worked" by changing the engine noise. I maintain that if you have two identical vehicles with the same power/torque output at the same rpm, but one has a growling exhaust and the other a normal one, most people will believe the noisier car to be more powerful (and will convince themselves of this). The mind is a powerful thing...

Now that is clever - forget using it as a charger - you could a make a perpetual motion machine with that technology!

It wouldn't be one of these would it :-k :-kThe so called superchargers :^o :^o

That's the one!

An equally strange bit of kit would be the things I saw in France a couple of years ago. Sort of plastic whistles that were designed to be stuck on the outside of your car where they would (supposedly) make ultrasonic whistling noises to stop wildlife wandering in front of you. I really can't see them working...
