Vulcan bomber to fly today?
littlepow:
Not saying military resources are stretched, but bringing back a Vulcan is taking the mick!
It's a completed waste of money, the £7,000,000 could have been better spent.

The money to restore the Vulcan Bomber - something that we should be proud of as part of our military heritage - has come from the public. Less than half has come from the Lottery heritage fund.
What would you have spent the money on? I would rather see £2.3 million of Lottery money spent on something British than go to some Muslim group to build a mosque. (Isn't there a sense of irony in the fact that Muslims abhor gambling yet they still like to profit from the lottery).
Over to you

We have to remember that this machine is an icon of times that we are best rid of. But I will still be in awe watching it fly.

I have to agree it is money well spent, it is an icon and also part of our heritage. It is good to see efforts coming to fruition with this flight.
On a similar vein - I was in Malta when it was the 60th anniversary of VE day (2005) and was priveleged to be at Grand harbour Valetta to see a Spitfire & Hurricane from Duxford do a flypast and a few aerial stunts. These planes were flown from Duxford to Malta & back by volunteers and fundraising took place all year to pay for the flight.
The atmosphere was electric - I was talking with locals who remembered when it was for real - they literally had tears in their eyes as the planes made there entrance into the harbour.
A day I will never forget :)
