went everywhere never got stuck. there are some after market bit, however could not get a snorkel for it.

I get annoyed by people who say they 'never got stuck' because it means that they havent tried. ive never had my citroen van stuck but its still crap off road.

(i tell a lie actually ive had the van stuck twice )

not knocking the vit's like.

speaking of vitara's, how worthy would a gv2000td with the 109hp motor be? are they tough enough for both lanes and daily driver duties? oh and will they take 31'' tyres?

Wing's rot if they have wheel spats on front and rear..Every vit ive seen has had a solid chassis..

Inner wings and boot floor rot unless it has been treated..

so much like every other jap car, you need to find that one car that's been in a garage all it's life with a new layer of underseal every year regardless.  [-o<

why no green oval?

a few reasons, mostly regarding reliability but also cos in this country if you are into offroading there's a perception that you have to have a landy to be taken seriously. I know that's as much of a stereotype as their reliability but it isn't without some substance.

yeah true, but with good reason often.  like it or not a land rover is a logical choice for off roading, all the kit is available cheap, spare parts are available cheap and they are as good as anything else if not better. The clutches will take one hell of a beating and they have plenty of grunt. Most people with jap stuff are people who have moved in to real off road from green laning. with many soft roaders there is a practical limit to their capability (ie torsion bar suspension etc) so once you go extreme there isnt much you can do to upgrade.

But most triallers you see are either old jeeps or land rovers.

But i understand where you are coming from, i used to off road a 110 and i liked the fact that it wasnt as bad as people thoght and surprised a few folk every now and again.

assuming for a minute I was to weaken towards having a 90, what should I be aware of when looking at a potential purchase?

not in a position to buy this instant so don't offer to sell me yours. also can't  afford over 5k tops. oh and it will have to be a van as i'm too big for a pickup, if that makes any difference.

If you haven't driven a Land rover before and have only driven Jap etc....Have a go in one they are some what funny in the seating postition i've had Land rover's since i past my test and personnely can do mega miles in it and i'am 6' 3" tall (could have moulded in to it??)  i average 20,000 a year and since going 300 tdi she's been quite reliable only having a problem with a half blocked and then dodgy repaired recore rad now having sorted cooling she fly's and would trust it to go any where in 13 years And 200,000 miles it's only ever failed to get me home 3 times... :)
