yet more transmition probs
Range Rover Blues:
The release mech might be stuck so that the hand brake is just catching the drum. They have a habbit of being slightly off-centre hence the lurching.
land-def-90:
well done tommo and range rover blues you were bang on, it was the hand brake, and it wasnt releasing properly. its fixed now and shes goin like a good un :D so thanks chaps
age:
Only just seen this - had exactly the same on mine till new clutch last week, Juddering when coming to halt was truly awful and getting worse. Turns out the clutch actually had loads of wear left (original at 133000m) - but the garage left a brass bush type thing (1" diameter 1" long tube for want of better description) for me to see - fatiague fracture had 'removed' about a quarter of it entirely down one side and another chunk being chewed out about 30 deg further round. Serious damage.
New clutch and 'drive spiggot' (apparently) and this bush thing and all is quiet again. Oh and £500+ ..........
Hope someone on here can identify the bit and maybe it is worth just replacing that? Good luck, A.
age:
Or not - only just got the up-date saying you found it and fixed it!!! Sorry - and good news too, cheers, A.
Range Rover Blues:
Age, sounds like the pilot or spigot bearing that holds the gearbox input shaft central where it meets the flywheel, keeps the whole clutch plate central in the clutch cover, an important part.
trouble is to chang eit you have to take the clutch off, he labour makes it a sensible precaution to fit a clutch whilst it's in pieces ubnless the old one is new, in which case you slap the guy who just fitted it for not checking the spigot pilot bearing
