counting splines ?

hi i need to find out how many splines  my rear diff has , if i take the rubber cap of in centre of wheel and count splines i can see there will that tell me ? :? oh its a retro fitted disco  2 axle

cant tell from that end AFAIK.

disco 2 im guessing still uses 24 spline like 300tdi although i couldnt be certain. might be competely different what with the smaller stud spacing etc.

DII should be 24 spline AFAIK, the company had gone completely 24 spline by that time.

ill be impressed if its a D2 axle, more than likely to be a D1 axle as they are a straight swap,

if it has a rubber cap it has to be an original 10 spline axle as on the discos both 10 & 24 spline the rear shafts are one piece  :police:

And Mike would know.  I have some 10 spline 2 peice shafts that I thought came from an early ABS RRC axle, they have the journal for the oil seal on them, but I won't argue the point with Mike ;)

Besides, AFAIK all the 24 spline shafts were 1 peice, even in Defender :-k
