engine swop
« on: March 14, 2008, 15:34:02 »
I'm new to landrovers and have a Discovery 300 tdi. I wanted a defender but was advised about the TD4 TD5 engines. could a 300tdi fit into a newer 110 Defender (something say 03/04 vintage) and if so what would have to be done to make it fit?

many thx Ian

I think the TD5 engine has got a bad name that it doesn't deserve, there are lots of them about doing their job reliably, yes there are nown faults but that's true of all engines TBH.

Then again I wouldn't go buying too new a LR either, have you seen what's happened to road tax

I work for an LR dealer i think the td5 is a quality engine, just check for oil seeping past injector loom seal and check for oil in the engine ECU. Other than that we hardly ever fix em.
