WINDSCREEN WIPERS HAVE GONE NUTS!!!!
« on: February 22, 2008, 18:20:20 »
My windscreen wipers have gone crazy!

They stop anywhere when the internitent wipe is switched on,
I have to not use intermitent now,
I just switch them on and switch them off when they are at the bottom of the screen.
They are also very lazy!
They go really slow when first switched on,
once running for a while they speed up and run normally!

Anyone got any ideas?
Could it be a relay?
Is it the motor?
An earth may be?

Cheers for any help in advance.
Ron.

it is most likely the motor itself (i dont know if it is dismantalable) but if you can take the contact points off you will most likely find lots of Grease on the contacts, clean it off, rub around the contacts with some emery paper / sand paper and bend the contact pins towards the rotor plate and emery them (this works on FIAT's )

It's the self park system in the motor, the intermittant only sets the wipers off, the motor has contacts in the round bit that switch the motor off in the right position, self-parking.

Thanks,

I'll check out the contacts today.
Is it easy to get at?
I see it's under the dash somewhere?

Cheers,

Ron.

HA HA easy ??? Its a PITA getting the two little bolts out that hold the decker panel to the wing top at each end, hidden down towards the bulkhead and then a myriad of screws holding it to the body edge. Also careful releasing the bonnet off the brackets as they can spring up quite nicely ! You really need two to take the bonnet off without damage.

have fun !

I had the bonnet & scuttle board off a while ago.
I should have checked the motor then,
but like always,
nothing was wrong with it when I could get at it!
Sounds like a job for the summer!

Them small bolts that hold the panel onto the wings......
Now I've got the inner wing guards off due to the wheel arch chop,I can get at them a bit easier,
When I had the bolts off I replaced them with plastic number plate nuts & bolts to stop the [!Expletive Deleted!] rusting up.

Cheers, Ron.

ON A 90 IT'S THE CONNECTOR BETWEEN THE WIRING LOOM AND THE MOTOR IT SELF...
IT'S CALLED THE SELF PARK SWITCH OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT...ONLY CHEAP...IT WON'T BE YOUR MOTOR !
