Handbrake advice - oh no not again

I have removed the drum and all is clean inside. The problem I have is that the hand brake does not work.

I pull the leve right up and it finally works.

I adjust the adjuster and this does very little if anything.

What could be a fault here, cable, actuator, adjuster. Is there a way to overhaul all these.

Once I get the flange off (any idea of the socket size) are there any gaskets or seals behind.

u dont need to take the flange off to remove the handbrake back plate,just undo the 4 15mm(i think) bolts that hold it on,u can then work on it in the warmth of ur workshop,it could be the pins & holes for the clevis pins are worn so there is alot of slack in the linkage

A little confused here. Just tried to remove the four bolts and there is no way that they are going to come out without removing the flange. Am I missingm something ?

The 4 bolts in the centre of the drum backplate should be tapped straight into the casting behind if I remember correctly. You certainly shouldn't need to take the flange off.

Hi Kenny, I had to do mine the other day, after a trip to the mud factory. Right, the actuator is the worst designed thing on a Landy. To take this out, you have to remove the link fron the cable.

Then there is a silly arangement of clips holding it on to the back plate. Have a good look how they go in, before removing them.

Once you have it out, then give it a good clean.

*BE CAREFUL HERE* there are two silly little rollers that go inside the actuator, and the tapers on the pins are what spreads the brakes..

Clean it all, and give it a light rub with emery cloth or suck like. I ended up putting mine back together with NO grease, as this only seems to attract the Poo.

Once cleaned, put back together in reverse order, and make sure the rollers are in the groove.

Squeeze it all together and put a bit of Masking tape round it to hold it together, whilst you assemble it. After the shoes are back in place, you can remover  the tape.

Once this is done, then adjust your cable, so that it has a little play, and bobs your uncle, it SHOULD work.

Is the Mud factory still open then ?

Also how about getting the four bolts out that atatch to the prop.

They are into floating captive nuts. You should be able to just undo them. However, there is quite a bit of slack in the captive nuts so you can be fooled into thinking they are not going to undo.
