lethal steering failure

<< < (2/3) > >>

way2deep:
will take it apart tomorra and post pics

would it be worth contacting landrover about it

Disco Matt:
If it was a Genuine Parts box then yes, I would.

way2deep:
how can i tell if it's a genuine part tho ??

way2deep:
took steering box off today and the shaft has snapped in two

must have been a flaw in the manufacture,,,i cannot see how a inch and a quarter solid steel bar could snap half way up the inside of the box like that
will put piccy on soon

Ja1983:
theres a lot of torsional stress on the shaft, hence its thickness, and poor maintenance, combined with a hard life can all weaken it.. dry steering for example puts huuuuge amounts of stress on the steering joints... and wears the tyres!

I imagine the previous keeper ignored the leek/play on the premise that it was going for sale soon....

someones life is surely worth a few quid!?
