VM to 200tdi swop

<< < (2/3) > >>

simdeb:
the vm seams to have a lot less power than the 200 tdi and with all the problems you can get with the vm thought it might be a good time to swoop over would just be my luck to replace the clutch then  have problems with the vm engine

i would be interested in the vm engine if it's still any good when you take it out  :)

simdeb:
nothing wrong with it runs well just under powered when got caravan on the back (23 foot twin axle ) other wise its ok , main trouble is the turbo does not come in till around 2000rpm that's OK when its on its not towing  , if i swoop it will give you a pm this week end is decision time

Range Rover Blues:
Have you driven a 200TDi then? or a 300?

I tow about 1500Kg with ours and it's ok, car and trailer, but oour 'van is about the same as yours, 23' and 1900kg fully loaded.  I have reservations about using the TDI (the biggest being the clutch) because it's not just the weight but the wind resistance too, at any speed it takes some shifting.

For that I use the LSE, it's a big V8 and it's auto.

Angus06:
Hey all you with 200tdi converted RRC's -can I join your club soon???
I am in the middle of converting my '87 RRC to a Disco 200TDI. It used to be a 2.4VM but has had a Nissan 3.3 the last few years. I am keeping the original LT77 from the VM anf will just make a new spigot bush and fit a bellhousing from a Disco 200.
My problem is that the bellhouising I have bought seperately from the engine seems to be too short meaning that the gearbox shaft is too far out of the bellhousing so it will hit the bottom of the hole for the spigot bush. Any ideas to what has gone wrong???
Is it right that the slave cylinder is on the other side than it was on the VM? Maybe I have the wrong bellhousing...
Also if any of you could post a few pictures of the engine mounts you have welded to the chassis -I better get some inspiration before I start melting iron together.
