What could cause me a problem when i swoop the vm engine and box out of my range rover and put a disco 200tdi lump in instead ?
Has any one done this . The vm engine is fine the clutch / gear box is the problem i have a 200tdi lump that i could fit and its a far better unit than the vm
thanks

Dont know but if you need to change gearbox a mate of mine (local) has a good 5 spd manual ;)
carls200tdi:
hi mate just done the conversion in my rangie (200tdi into vm) the you will probably need to change the gearbox as the vm has a smaller shaft than the tdi you will also have to change the chassis mounts for the engine as they are different, down pipe for the exhaust, fuel lines are on opposite sides radiator expansion tank and air box are on opposite sides aswell hope this info helps
Range Rover Blues:
I know the 300 TDi engine mounts are different but I didn't know the 200 were. Anyway, I've a mate who's got on that's been done (not that that helps you much).
How much better is the 200TDi, I know it's meant to be quieter/smoother but is it more powerful? if the engine is good I'd be tempted to just swap the 'box. If it's just the input splines that are different (check the ratios) then surely a 200TDi clutch plate will go inside the VM clutch? I know my mate's car has the original 'box.
carls200tdi:
the engine mounts on a vm is the same as a v8 angled 200tdi are flat the splines on the gearbox are the same the end which goes into the spigot bush is smaller on the vm
the 200 tdi is quieter maybe with a little less power but not a lot
i used the vm box just changed the bush in the back of the crank which has to be made
