200 tdi head swap

 Hi all, have offered to help a mate, to swap the head over on his disco 200 tdi, i am reasonably good mechanicly, but must admit never swapped  a head over on one of these before, any tips/pitfalls ?? special tools ?? and the million dollear question ---- how long should it take  :lol:
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)
a bit more fuel friendly than the V8

First time took me a leisurely 4 hrs.  Only about 4 spanners, 4 sockets, torque wrench & feeler gauge required.

4-hours seems about right, but there's probably someone who can do it quicker........!!

Make sure that all the surfaces have been cleaned and don't skimp on the replacement service parts...., gaskets, bolts, etc.

You mention bolts ? are you refering to head bolts ??

yer head bolts
they shouldnt be re-used any more than 3 times#
i personally replace them on every cyl head i do, as theres always the possability that ones going to break, thus making the job longer than intended

Silly question's, why are you changing heads? and do you know the donor heads history......, ??

Dunno, he has been advised that  is what is needed,  the "new" head came from his previous disco which was a good runner, hes stripped out  n reseated the valves ect,  i shall try n find out the symptoms it has, Cheers for all the replies

check it for flatness or you might be wasting your time.

For what it costs get it skimmed, then fit a 3 hole gasket,  4 hours is about " AVERAGE "  time to do a head swop, Book time is 6,65 hours,
