Rant over Freelander 2 - Trailer electrics - UPDATED

(1/2) > >>

LiftedDisco:
OK... so we have something of a conundrum in our house as my daughter has ridden since she was 3.

However, she has a balanced view on life and thinks that Mud + Disco = Happiness so the typically horsey 'anti' view is kept well under control.

And so to the tale...

Horse due to compete in something at 'area level'

Must be important, methinks, as everything in sight got polished packed, checked, cleaned again and then wrapped in tissue paper...

6.30am start, so I suggest that for good measure it might be worth having the trailer hitched to wife's Freelander 2 last night - just to save time in the freezing cold early AM.. hate to disturb the neighbours with cursing as tender pinky hands freeze to bits of trailer..

Job done...

No blinkin' electrics... as in none at all.

This on a brand new Freelander 2 - where the main stealer wants £650 to fit the 'approved' towbar and various aftermarket peeps are scared off by the fact that everything on a new car seems to be linked to the engine management system.

Solution?

Get the Disco! :D

2" lift, enormous bumper and somewhat aggressive tyre pattern.

Much fun to be had in being the anti-christ

Also, anticipating 'interesting' conversation with supplying stealer early Monday...

yes my boss's dad just bought a Freelander 2 and had a removable tow pack (electrics fitted but wired up wrong) and they did not supply him with the Towball removing Key  my boss had a real go at them and they ended up cutting the Lock off and fitting a new one (free of course) and wired up the electrics correctly (They did not do that) but luckily we know a Good Auto electrician who did it took him 20 minutes for 7 wires

Range Rover Blues:
Oh I always have a conundrum when it comes to towing,

'94 RRC LSE, 5.0 auto, soft dash, cruise

or '94 RRC TDi, manual

Or blue, something of a beast with a god-awful gearbox, but will go anywhere and has plenty of "driver aids"

So it tends to be the LSE on the 'van, the TDi on the car trailer and Blue on the Rapier (NATO)

But of course as I've wired them all up, they work faultlessly (until I knock one off in the mud )

LiftedDisco:
Forgot to mention... the Disco is 12 years old and electrics work at first time of asking.

Nuf said! :D

LiftedDisco:
Having let of steam on Sunday night over the towbar electrics, I then spoke to the supplying dealer on Monday morning - it turns out that the engine management system needs to be 'told' that the car now has a tow bar and that this was something that got missed during PDI.

The dealer was Hunters of Guildford and they promised to pick up the Freelander the following day, providing a replacement vehicle.

Tuesday morning - call to say that the replacement Freelander was out, but they would provide a TDV6 Discovery and would be leaving shortly.

Niki's Freelander is now back - all work done, full tank of diesel, cleaned throughout and a set of rubber mats by way of apology.

Top, top marks to all at Hunters - V impressed!
