Twin Tanks question
landroverkeith:
Hiya just wondered if anyone could shed some light on sumthing for me my 2a has the twin tanks under the seatboxes and ive only ever ran it off of the right hand tank, reasons why mentioned b4 lol
What it is the left hand tank is now 3/4 full of petrol, which im guessing is being fed from the right hand when the fuels returned? im asking mainly because 2 reasons
1. We put a tenners worth of petrol in last sunday i drove the old gal less then 500 yards to and from a petrol station, and turned her over once a day for about 5 mins this week, and theres no fuel left in the tank...... i know its a v8 but im certain its not that thirsty lol [-o<
2. im relunctant to use the left tank because soon as the switch is moved into position for it the amount of fuel that flows from the back of the lever is not good lol
hope that makes sense
cheers keith

The car is an ex mil. Best thing you can do is strip out the tank you aren't useing, and replace the pipe work, to do away with the switching tap.
I had the same job to do on my old 2a which was converted to diesel, the tap leaked and allowd air into the system.
Advantage. You can convert the spare tank into useful concealed storage.
Disadvantage. With a V8 you will not have much range between fill ups.
Years ago, we used to repack the taps, but I doubt that the kits are still available, they were mil issue back in the 60s.
Probably easiest to convert to one tank, and carry a jerry can.
Pete.

Hiya,
I've had a dig around on the Series 2 Club forum, and found that you can still get the cork seals for the changeover tap.
--- Quote ---Basically the ferguson TVO tractor uses the same gasket for the petrol / tvo change over tap.

Not sure where they are on the site, but they are £1 each, or were a year ago. I think keeping the twin fuel tanks will be far less hassle than changing them, and it is a unique and useful feature. As always, your decision, though I know what I would do for a £1.
