pajero problems, it belongs to a friend, i wouldnt own 1, help please

high my friend needs your help, he went through a puddle and the alternator light came on , and its not started since, he changed the alternator for a spare he thinks was a goodun but still dont go, a puddle what sort of a 4x4 did he buy, lol
p.s its a j reg 2.5td

Does the starter turn  and not engage, turn the engine over, or not turn at all ?

It sounds like a dead short on the starter motor to me with the info so far.

where you at? there is a fuse on top of the battrey 80 amp check it to see if its blown, if the battries are fully charged and it dont turn over its eaither your imobilser has shorted or starter ( which i doubt)
its hard to diagnose the problem with out seeing it mate,
