raised air intake question

(1/3) > >>

boss:
would an external air filter get bunged up alot???
i want to go down the route of losing my air box and hooking it all together with the filter on top.

i would like to go down either of these routs;
big stainless pipe up the side with the filter on the roof much like this

or the alternative(my favorite) is lose the air box and pipes compleetley have the air intake straight off the turbo, route it through the bulkhead, out the back of the cab and up the side

but with either of these the air filter is exposed would it not hinder performance when raining with a set up like this?

extreme90:
no
ive done away with my airbox on my 90, as i dont want hundereds off different ways of water to get into my intake system
so i've got one pipe that goes direct to the turbo
my air filter is on top of the snorkel tube which replaces the mushroom top

change mine every few months

at a tenner, its nothing

but otheres see it differently
dan

i suspect it would be more vulnerable to mud and water, if you do, always carry a spare round! air filter elements arent particularly robust (even the aluminium ones) so i`d go with the standard (tried and tested) air box & snorkle

boss:
ta mate, but which way would you think better?
i would like to stay away from the regular positionong of it as i went on a greenlane run not so long ago and my dads safari snorkel lost its top and a friend dave lost his off of a s3 just from trees snagging. thought i would try a diferent way.
