What MPG do you get?

<< < (2/9) > >>

Dr Strangeglove:
Look on your receipt for the amount of fuel you have put in your tank.  Keep a note of the fuel amount and your current milage.  Do this every time you fill up.  As it is likely to be in litres, divide this amount by 4.546 (as this is the number of litres per gallon).

After you have filled up a few times and noted the milage you have done you should get an accurate mpg.  Just divide the miles by the amount of fuel you have used doing them and this will give you an accurate average miles per gallon.

You can also do it by re setting the trip meter on your speedo when you fill up.  This will only work if every time you fill up you fill your tank to the top or you may put a different amount in to that you have just used on your latest milage reading!

I do know that I am getting double the mpg running on straight veg oil compared to diesel.

Thats like 55mpg when you are on veg oil then. it might only cost half as much to run but it wont do twice as much to the gallon.

I know it costs nearly half the amount to buy but, I have only JUST passed the 3/4 mark on the fuel guage and I have done 220miles so far. I have done about 10miles on diesel from the small tank so say 200miles from top quarter of a tank on 100% veg oil. When I used to run on diesel I used to get 200miles at the half a tank mark. So at the moment it is looking to be near double MPG and nearly half price. Will see when I next fill up with veg oil. Long journey this weekend coming up :-)

As for the reset trip meter each tank full. I have always done that and always put in a full amount. If I dont put a full amount in I dont reset trip meter and add the small amount of fuel put in to the full tankfull the next trip to give same reading. I will work out MPG soon for you.

BMW Diesel & Auto Box:
Max 33mpg but very rare, that is all motorway and driving carefully
29 general driving long distance, some Motorway, some singe lane and some running around towns etc.
24 hard driving on the welsh lanes - that is on tarmac not on Green Lanes.

Towing most trailers doesn't really effect it much except that you can forget the 33.
