Aloha all!
Attached is the EGR and heater/cooler unit from my 98 300Tdi. You can see I have disconnected the vacuum hose and I have removed the control valve from beside the jack. The whole menagerie will be gone soon although with the vacuum disconnected in therory the valve should be shut now. :roll:
Anyone else have an EGR unit like this?? :-k

I'm suprised that mine is not identical to yours as mine in an ex Jap too.....

First pic shows the old setup.

Second pic shows the new setup. The area is still wet from penetrating oil.

I've got no idea what the cylinder in the middle of yours is!!

just noticed the rubber pipping on that funy cylinder now could it be a small heat exchanger as they look like heater pipes ? if so why??

To cool the very hot boost air thats coming direct from the turbo before it goes into the engine downstream of the intercooler otherwise it negates the point of having an intercooler.  This is the very reason why most folk dump the EGR - at least the jap spec trucks have made an attempt to solve the major draw-back with the EGR concept......

Yep exactly right. As for auf_wiedersehen_pet's truck, the heater/cooler was fitted from late '96 on. A bloke that works at my service outfit has an early '96 and his doesn't have the heater/cooler. :)

Either way, it's comin off and to do that I need to get a new lower rad hose as the 1 this truck has is different 'cos of the EGR thing. As I said, at least it is disabled now. I just hope the valve is shutting properly! Oh, the plat you use os perfect for installing a high temp probe for an ex temp gauge! :dance:
