« on: January 01, 2008, 17:33:20 »
Happy new year all,
Time has  come to buy a new phone and have been looking at phones with good cameras.
I have about £120 to spend and at the moment im deciding between the sony ericson k800i or the k810i Anyone have any opinions on either, or any other phones to look at?
Kind Regards
Sam

I have the K800i. I've found it to be a very good phone and its under £100 now.

It takes good qual. pictures and works well. I use it as a modem for my PC too,

Only prob I found is the batt isn't that brilliant. (Its not bad though)

I have the misfortune of working for Phones4U as a temp over christmas......as a Pay as you go adviser. (its the low season for outdoor pursuits instructors)

The K800 is great for the money
The K810 is essentially the same phone in new packaging.

id go with the K800, although I have broken 2 of them, mud and phones don't really mix all that well.

The cameras are both OK apart from in low light, when they only work really close up.

Its worth looking at how much you spend on Pay as you go (I assume you are on P&G) if its looking like more than £20-25 a month then have a look at potentially going onto contract, have a good look at online deals AND go into phone shops and play all of the bigger ones off each other to get the best deal. They WILL fight for your custom and you can get a great deal!

Depending on where you live, you will find the independents will give you a better deal than the larger chains. Usual teasers are free Wii's, Xboxes or cashback after presenting 3 months worth of bills proving usage of your new phone.

Hello,

The battery life on teh N95 is appalling, 1 day if you dont use it! (have to turn off all the functions to "get you home".  It can go to 3 days if you buy a bigger battery, but then it wont fit in any of the nice cases (unless I am mistaken.)  The camera on it is nice though, but to be honest the rest of it just toyz.

Cant talk for the other stuff.

Why not save your money and buy a cheap phone that just makes 'calls' and spend the rest on something more worthwhile?

Don't get a k800i they are too fragile. The joy stick thing on mine has been back twice for the same fault and is no better for being fixed.

Next time i'm off back to nokia they are tougher.

Disable the automatic network detection and things like bluetooth and wi-fi. I get over a week out of my N80 now, initally got about a day and a bit. Theres a fotware patch that helps too

You could always try ebay - old phones and batteries aren't hard to find. Failing that there is a website that refurbishes old basic phones and sells them on - http://www.retrobrick.com/

Then buy a nokia 1100 or equivalent, about £20 new and they are just very basic small phones!

If you want the free stuff, best go to thelink.co.uk. Reputable (ex-high street) shop that does good deals (usually with Orange) and throw in free stuff.

I can highly recommend the K800i. I bought mine back in June as a shop damaged ex-display model (there was a slight chip in the case which was so small the guy had to show me where it was) and think it's great. It's got a good camera for those times when you forget to pack the real one and has a really quick Internet connection. I also bought a SE hands-free car kit at the same time and got a deal on the pair for less than £120. The car kit is also brilliant

I'd always had Nokia phones in the past ~ my son works for Orange and gets a new one every 6 months which he then passes on to me ~ but think the K800i is better than the current crop of "N" phones. The only down-side is that the joystick is reputed to be a weak point although mine is okay. I bought the wife a W810i because she didn't like the joystick and that's pretty wicked too, especially if you like to listen to music as it has Sony Walkman software in it

Went from a Sony Erricson K800i which I found was a good phone but as mentioned previously the joystick is pants
I now have a Nokia N95 8gb which is great because I can put all sorts of useless applications on (such as an inclinometer :-k) whick keep me happy when I'm 'busy' at work
