im just hesitant in taking it all apart as i have air con in the rear console. will have a good nosey in the light, cheers guys :)

You don't need to take the whole console out at all.
Free off the gaiter.
Go steady with it as the plastic part can snap.
Don't pull it up the handbrake lever too far.
Grip the switch panel and slide it towards the drivers door a few mm and it will pull forward. Ease it out of the way and you can get access to the switch.
