I'm a tad puzzled why they bothered with limiters in the first place - all lorries are required to have a tacho fitted anyway which should be enough deterrent to insane speeds as in the event of an accident or roadside check it'll be the first thing the Police look at. This business of bouncing off the limiter at 56mph, side by side on a motorway until one runs out of steam on an incline just annoys truckers and other road users alike!

that was, till a few weeks ago when reids transport went bust.
i overtook one once then when his mate pulled up next to him they where off. :shock:

dunno if the laws changed but PC's COULDNT legally check your tacho as they hadnt had training in what to look for..in the event of an RTA they had to wait for VOSA (well V.I. then )to turn up and remove tacho...had an interesting stop about 6 years ago in a 7.5 tonner, got pulled in for a spot check - so theywent over the wagon, then a young PC came to my door and said "can I see your Tacho please" my answer was "NO..." well he went red - coughed spluttered and threatened me with with holding information and generlal allsorts UNTIL a VI guy came up and asked what was going on..when he was told he basically told PC that it WASNT his job to check Tachos - and that If I had given it to him HE (and Me ) would have broken the law!!! needless to say I made a hasty exit and had a good chickle to myself as the pc was still getting an earbending from the VI guy
