:)  :) A couple of years ago it was cheaper to tax my car than insure it but now,thanks to 'Mr Bean' aka 'Dick Turpin without the mask' I now find that it costs me £205.00 for the road fund licence and I've just accepted an insurance quote of £150.00 fully com. to insure my V.W. Caravelle...crazy or what... :shock:  :shock:  :shock:

Rant over...back to my corner :wink:  :wink:

Ah, so you get taxed on your tailpipe then.

It's about time they abolished road tax, fuel costs enough now anyway and if it wasn't for the road tax I reckon more people would bu a runabout for the weekdays.  Whereas I know of people who use thier cars rather than busses "because it's costing money to just sit there".

:D  :D Absolutely Blues...Mr Bean is hell bent on getting more and more money from us motorists because we are an easy option...I long for the day when the majority of us in this Country realise this and do something positive about it...one gets tired of being ripped off time and time again...

And the cost to the environment in the manufacturing of all those extra cars. Not that the government would worry, they'd have loads of extra vehicles to get tax from  :roll:

On the subject of the OP.....
It wasn't that long ago when you could go out for a drive for the fun of it! I have an MG Midget that hasn't seen the road since 1991. I couldn't even use it now because it only had about 2" ground clearance and it would never get over the endless speed bumps! These useless piles of tarmac never existed in 1991!

Just think about it...
In 1991 there were no 'safety cameras', no speed bumps, no independant camera vans..... I'm sure the list is endless. And 1991 isn't *that* long ago.

I could insure the Midget when i bought it at the age of 17. These days, if a 17 year old wanted to insure a Mazda MX5 or similar, they would laugh at him! What's changed?

Nope! It doesn't last long enough! When I was younger, a pint seemed to last for ages. Now? Gone in a flash!

You might find the reduction in time it takes for a pint to dissappear is directly proportional to your shrinking clothes  :lol:

I know just what you mean.... Wagon Wheels were over 6" in diameter and all policemen were old :lol:  Oh yes, my hair had colour :cry:

I remember when beer was 60p a pint & 2* petrol was 60p a gallon. Used to fill my moped up (FS1E) for £1.20.... and it would last for 2 weeks !!!, but I only earnt £40 a week, so i suppose it's all relevant. Oh for hair and smaller clothes......................Sigh !!

Not at the same time I doubt. Beer was about 22p a pint in our locals in 1975 and I was paying 70ppg for 2 star at that time.
I remember going up to Cleo's in Yarmouth one weekend and moaning like hell because we were paying 28p a pint for Whitbread Trophy.

Nostalgia's not what it used to be!

It was at the same time round our way, well maybe a couple of years apart. I can still recall the taste of 'Simmons' bitter (brewed from the leaf, not the bud), after going up the pub on my fizzy. So there !!

And my fizzy tank was 1.8 gallons (I think)  :? . So there again !!!!   :wink:

What? Casting slurs upon my good character! :roll: Time is not important. It was something made up by the ruling classes to govern and control us!
My answer to anyone who asks what the time is, 'whatever you want it to be!'
Hence I never wear a watch, therefore I don't worry about being late, as I'm always there at the time that I said I would be.

.......because an MX5 goes a damn sight faster than an MG Midget (I used to have a Midget 1500 and clearly remember it running out of ooph at 60mph :lol: ).

Ooo... not mine.... 145bhp at the flywheel  :twisted: The 1500 was a particularly poor car. The best of them were the 1275's.

But you get my meaning, I'm sure. The MX5 being the nearest modern equivalent. I also had a V8 Rover SD1 when I was 18 as a tow car for the Midget (race car). Again, a modern equivalent would be uninsurable by an 18 year old today.

Bango chocci bars where did they go.
When i past my test the petrol was priced in gallons not ltrs.
And £10.00 lasted forever.
Mind you my talbot avenger had green flanelet sets and i thouhgt that that was cool.
Why don't they make cars with black plastic roof covers any more the bird poo never maked them.

I sold my Mk 3 cortina only last year. 2 door GT. Really miss it, lovely smell of old.......stuff.
