Britpart tolerances...or me being dumb?
Iain C:
I'm in the middle of lots of rebuildy stuff on my Disco so moving bits will move without graunchy noises and stoppy bits will do their stopping.
Tonight I fitted new pistons and seals to one of my rear calipers, and with everything having gone swimmingly well (shiny new discs fitted and nice new bearings in the hubs) I started to get really narked after having spent about 30 minutes trying to get one of the poxy piston wiper seal metal retainers into the top of the caliper bore. The more I messed around with it, the more I was convinced that it was simply too big and just was not going to go in.
So I found the old ones which had come out with the nasty old pistons, and tried them for size against the new Britpart ones. They fitted INSIDE the new ones! After some careful cleaning, the old ones fitted back into the calipers with a satisfying "click".
There was clearly NO WAY the new ones were ever going to fit...has anyone else ever come across similar issues with other parts?
I'd like to send them back, although I guess it's a tricky one as it goes without saying that I did use the new seals and not refit the old ones...

i,ve had trouble getting the wiper seals in to the caliper as they are a sod to fit squarely but yours sound like they are the wrong size entirely :?
Ricky:
my expeirence of Britpart is they dont know the meaning of tolerances
stageonesimmo:
