200TDi Air Con Belt Removal
« on: December 03, 2007, 14:38:37 »
My 200TDi has been squeling like a stuck pig this week so I finally got around to checking/replacing/tightening all the belts.

I was happy that the power steering viscous fan belt was in good nick, just needed the power steering pump adjusting to tighten it, the alternator belt got replaced and tightened too.

The air con belt needd replacing as well but frankly I culdn't be bothered to take off the fn and stuff to get to it, so I just cut the old air con belt off!!!

In the three years I've had the car, I've never used the ar con (doubt theres any gas in it either) can anyone think of any reason why I shouldn't just leave it as is without the air con belt??

The belt just comes from the central fan pulley and then runs up round the air con pump and tensioner so its not running anything else.

thanks

None at all, if the gas is already gone then it's just dead weight now.

ta.

I thought about removing the whole air con system but figured it might as well stay incase I ever sell it.  (probably kidding myself that air con will make a difference when selling a knackered 20 year old disco!!)

If you do decide to remove it I would be very interested in buying some of the bits like tensioner etc.  Currently fitting a compressor to my disco and need the tensioner and bottom pulley.  Let me know if change your mind, I could swap my standard bits for the air con ones.
