lambert:
I know why insurance is so dear.

Last saturday my little mazda was backed into whilst parked up. Not a problem got details her insurance paying up.

But went to get a quote from a reputable repairer to replace my drivers door. £1117.11 !

Ok fine it's met silver bit of a git to match. But just out of curiosity i rang a scrap yard to price a door, £100 plus vat!

No wonder premiums are so high!

Guardian.:
do you want a second hand door then?

Drift:
They only fix it with new parts.
They also take into account admin and curtisy(spelling) cars.

They would more than likely write it off sell it again as cat C.

Some one would source cheaper parts and its back on the road again.

lambert:
By rights it's not my car, it's my old dears(complicated don't ask). As such they are insistant on a new door despite my protestations of going wombleing for a recycled door.

If it were my truck i'd womble a door like i have my front wings and settle the claim for cash.

Drift:
Its due to the gaurentee (more speling) its has to be industry standard.

Only thing you can do is let them write it off, pay out then buy it back cat c  :(
