How about this lady yesterday, stopped on medium sized roundabout to answer her phone.

this is illegal any way. I got told so by a cop once when I thought he was stopping me but gave the wrong arm signal!!!

The day after I passed my test (no minors / totaly clean pass sheet) I came off a roundabout and went into the inside lane and got a blast on the horn, looked round and saw a car I nearly got. All because I thought the looking in the blind spot was just rubbish, how could a whole car not be seen in it. Ever since then I have always looked in blind spot, even on motorways. I also had an accident in my Mums car, Someone pulled out infront of me at a junction, I swerved and missed them but got the rnge rover that pulled over as predicted what was about to happen. Damn. Before that accident I admit yes, I was an absolute idiot doing silly speeds down twisty national speed limit roads. Second I had that accident I realised I wasn't invinsable. Now I get more pleasure out of getting more mpg / miles out of a tank of fuel than speed.  I know I am sad and 25yrs old!

When I was a postie I used to be a bit quick shall we say but I felt I was a much safer driver then as I was having to pay alot more attention to cars coming etc as constant stop starting. since being not a postie any more I feel I am driving differently and more lazy. You had to be quick and be aware all the time otherwise you would be hit up the back or dead!

I am no "god" at driving but everyone has thier moment lapse of consentration which maybe the girl stated in the first thread had. she may have been so worried about clipping the car in the bay next to her she didnt look behind enough?

I could type loads here but I will save it for another day! :D

P16LET:
I would be inclined to agree that insurance companies aren't in the habit of giving money away....but that being said, insurance as a whole is based on a "risk assessment" put together by the insurance company and/or underwriter.

This is why they like to know when vehicles have mods added to them, as it could make them more "nickable", same can be said for a change of colour....black and red cars are percieved to be more desirable to Joe CarThief than grey or brown ones (...and just as a side bar, "dull" colours have a poorer resaleabilty value than their red/black counterparts)...the list is by no means exhaustive....and it is into this catergory that the whole woman driver=cheaper insurance debate falls.

It's not that women are any better or worse than men at driving...although we all have out own opinions as to why they perhaps are, worse that is.. (...don't do as much long distance driving, no concept of spacial awareness etc)...as far as insurance companies are concerned it is based on the ££££ value of insuring women.
Most policies carry an excess of around £250...and most female steering induced prangs don't creep too far beyond this...that's if a claim is made at all. The reliance is usually on hubby/partner/father/brother to get down the local scrappers and repair it without ever involving the insurance company. Whereas men do have a tendency to do things quite spectacularly, and the claim goes way beyond the excess, so insurance is used more often than not to cover the repairs.....and it is this major difference that insurers are relying on when it comes to premiums.

From the general tone so far, I too believe that it is primarily the under 25's and new drivers that wreak havoc with insurance premiums, but similarly, if we are going to restrict the under 25's to 1000cc, then perhaps we ought to have enforced advanced driving courses for anyone wanting to own and drive a high permance car...on a par with part 1 & 2 for motorbikes?! ...............

...and just as a point of interest, I pay £236 fully comp a year for my Vectra....and that's with 3 points (    )  :D  :D  :D
