I thought I should sing the praises of James French in Standlake, Oxford (no relation to me despite the surname).

When I was having major headaches with my P38 I read their advert in the back of LROI:  along the lines of "If you have a P38 with lots of annoying intermittent problems, and nobody can sort them out, we will!"

And they did...  Steve, their chief mechanic, can play Autologic like a maestro.  It's like he does a Vulcan mind-meld to your Land Rover.  He managed to work out that my P38 had an intermittent misalignment in the crank sensor, plus an intermittent fault with the air flow meter, which together were causing me to go grey.  2 main dealers had failed miserably to find anything wrong at any stage.

Now I take my TD5 there for servicing, even though they're an hour and a quarter away, because I know their prices are reasonable, plus their technical expertise is way better than the main dealers.  They correctly diagnosed the oil seepage in my injector harness, and then fixed it for a very reasonable price.

Peace of mind for anybody with a complex Land Rover product...

I'd like to second that.

I was in the Oxford area today and the alternator belt started shredding,

so called in to get a new one to get me back home to Northants. [-o<

Steve had a look under the bonnet, diagnosed failed power steering pump,

sorted out my warranty claim, had pump and belt fitted for me and I was

back on the road in under an hour and a half!! =D>  =D>

I can't imagine that happening at a certain dealership in Northampton.](*,)

They could certainly learn a thing or two from this outfit. He knew most of

the part numbers off the top of his head, no dopey yts lad scratching his

head wondering [Edited] he is supposed to be looking for.

A good selection of used vehicle for sale as well, one to remember for the

future.

Can't recommend them highly enough. :D  :D  :D
