Dude, where's my Defender!? ..., the continuing story
Terranger:
So, the dealership's General Manager has now offered me £500 as a discount to the final bill, but, they want to re-evaluate the Terrano before the trade-in is concluded.
I was under the impression, that the contract was signed and the trade-in agreement was accepted.
Am I wrong?
I tracked down the salesman who orchestrated the deal, and he doesn't understand why I don't have my vehicle, and can see no reason why the dealership is wanting a re-evaluation.
Does anyone think I should get Trading Standards involved?
PM's and advice gratefully received.
thermidorthelobster:
I'd use it as a threat. Say either the deal is done, in which case you proceed no arguments, or you seek legal advice. If you want to make the point, write it in a letter with "WITHOUT PREJUDICE" at the top - nobody knows what this means but it's a signal that you really mean business :)
If you have signed paperwork then you have a contract of some sort; read it to see what getout clauses they have. Even if you don't, you have a verbal contract if you've agreed terms.
Boggert:
It all just sounds so wrong...
I would say no to to them having a second look and say where is my car??
If the kick up a fuss get trading standards involved.
richo:
Sounds like they have made a boo bo with the value of you trade in and now are trying to re crunch the figures.
Are you buying a new defender if so tell them to stuff it and go to another dealership.
Main dealers are just shiny used car sale yards.
The worst car i ever purchased was from a Audi dealership.I stupidly thought i would get no hasles buying from a main dealer.
Go in next sat when they have loads of customers looking at there new motors and kick up with the head sales guy that might gee them on a bit.
waveydavey:
Tell them to stuff it if they don't honour what they have agreed.
Go to Holland and you will probably save more than the trade in anyway then whatever you sell the Terrano for you get the cash.
Actually was told by a cloggy that the dutch got to Belgium to buy cars as it's cheaper!
